Just Finished "The Island"

Due to Michael Bay's recent success with the Transformers movie, I decided to get Kristie to watch another Michael Bay movie. Rather than dust off the forgettable (please for the love of god let me forget) Pearl Harbor, we rented The Island. It was my second time seeing it, and I must say, I liked it as much as the first; that's a good thing. I know a lot of people give Bay strife for this movie, but it has its following. I love the underlying ethics of the movie. For those of you who may eventually see it, I don't want to be a spoiler. Let's suffice to say that you'll like the movie a lot if you have an interest in technology and bioethics. It was a nice stray from the typical, kill-a-guy-say-a-one-liner, action movies I've been watching. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson are good stuff.

In other news, I finally got to see Kindergarten cop the other night. As usual, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the man. Previously I'd seen T1, T2, and Running Man, all of which combined had as many Arnie lines as Kindergarten Cop. It was a nice change to see the Governator speak more lines. Yeah, I definitely went and said Governator. Off to bed!

*cough cough*

I watched "An Inconvenient Truth" a few days ago and it made me start thinking about the environment, and how we as a populous affect it. While google mapping directions to a school in Avalon Park, I stumbled across this photo of the power plant in that area. I believe it's a power plant. What's funny is that the school is only two miles away from the plant. Something tells me that all those rich people living in that area are going to wind up raising radioactive mutants within the next few years. It's really entertaining to think that those people spent all that money to live in their picturesque town, but constantly looming over them is this black spot on the landscape. Just a few thoughts.

Finally done with IPN

Finally, against all odds, I've finished the Paypal IPN/password management script that I was writing for www.advanced-stock-selection.com! After many days of trying to get Paypal's CGI script to work with Mr. Meehan's server, I finally gave up. I decided that if I was going to get the password management to work, I would simply have to write my own.

I wrote a backend php system that links with a mysql database. After subscribing to one of Mr. Meehan's services, the user is redirected to a subscription page. A form's completed, everything is loaded into the database, and the user is automatically logged in. Depending on the user's access level, he or she can access certain parts of the subscription service.

I'm extremely satisfied with the application I wrote. It's been a while since I've sat down and tried figuring out a solution to a real world problem, and I'm extremely happy that I could complete it. I was referred my Mrs. McCullen, and I didn't want to let her down. Hooray for finally being finished with it! I definitely belong in the computer science field. I'm glad this is what I'm going to making my career with.

In other news, I finally got to see Ratatouille tonight. I absolutely loved it and will write more later. All in all it was a very successful night. Cheers!
